Salmon Arm man avoids arrest on Tuesday, busted on Wednesday

After a series of recent break-ins in Salmon Arm, RCMP officers arrested two men – one of whom was given an extra day only to get caught red-handed.

An increased number of break and enters were being reported in downtown Salmon Arm between Oct. 23 and today, Oct. 27, according to an RCMP press release. The break and enters all occurred overnight while the businesses were closed.

Yesterday, on Oct. 26, two break-ins were reported in the downtown area. Later in the day an officer on patrol located two men in a parking lot in possession of property believed to be stolen. When it was confirmed that the items were from the businesses that were broken into, one of the men was arrested. He was charged with possession of stolen property and released.

Early this morning, the sound of broken glass could be heard from a downtown business and a concerned citizen called it in. Police responded and arrested a man who was inside the business in possession of stolen electronics, liquor and cash. The suspect happens to be the same fellow from the parking lot who was not arrested the day before alongside his buddy.

The second man – who is a resident of Salmon Arm – was also charged with break and enter.

Police called the concerned citizen “instrumental” in helping them to catch the suspect in the act, and encourage all members of the public to report any suspicious activity in downtown Salmon Arm at night.
