
Interior Health care homes, hospital still dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks
COVID-19 outbreaks in care homes are ongoing throughout Kamloops and the Okanagan, although the numbers have dipped slightly since mid-week.
In Kamloops, an outbreak was declared on Nov. 2 at the Royal Inland Hospital in an acute care facility. Within unit 5S there are 23 COVID-19 cases between 18 patients and five staffers. Two days earlier, on Nov. 3, there were 19 active cases with 17 patients and two staff.

Another active COVID-19 outbreak in Kamloops is on the first floor of the Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre, which is a residential facility. It was declared on Oct. 30 and there are two cases involving three residents and one staff member as of Nov. 5. On Nov. 3 there were only half as many cases affecting one resident and one staff member.
Kelowna also has two active COVID-19 outbreaks, both at residential facilities.
Cottonwoods Care Centre Long-term care was first declared on Aug. 4. There are 70 active COVID-19 cases with 55 residents and 15 staff infected. There have been 17 deaths connected to the outbreak so far. There was no change in numbers between Nov. 3 and Nov. 5

The other COVID-19 outbreak in Kelowna is at the Sun Pointe Village, where seven residents and three staffers account for 10 active cases. Two days earlier there were nine active cases. That outbreak was declared Oct. 28.
Two COVID-19 outbreaks are also active in Penticton. Numbers remained the same at both facilities between Nov. 3 and Nov. 5.
The Village by the Station has 41 cases between 27 residents and 14 staff. Three deaths were connected to the outbreak.
The other outbreak in Penticton is at Haven Hill Care Centre where 10 residents and two staffers account for 12 cases. One death has been reported in connection with the outbreak.
The only other active outbreak in Interior Health is at the Deni House in Williams Lake. There are 12 cases between 10 residents and two staffers and there have been three deaths so far. Those numbers did not change throughout the week.
In Summerland, an outbreak was declared at the Dr. Andrew Pavilion on Oct. 1. However that outbreak is not COVID-19, it is a respiratory infection going around.
