Teen robbed, assaulted on Okanagan Rail Trail has fractured skull, collapsed lung

The 17-year-old who was allegedly attacked and robbed on the Okanagan Rail Trail in Kelowna yesterday suffered a fractured skull and a collapsed lung.

The teen was riding his bicycle along a section of the trail east of Dilworth Road near the pedestrian bridge at around 3 p.m. yesterday, Nov. 9, when he was approached by two transient men, RCMP said. He was assaulted and taken to hospital with serious injuries. The suspects stole his bike, shoes and cell phone. No arrests have been made.

Amber Biglow's 17-year-old son is friends with the victim and has set up an online fundraiser.

“For me, as a mom,  it made me upset and angry,” she said.

Biglow said the attack in broad daylight on the rail trail makes her wonder about the safety of her children.

“It really hits home," she said.

The victim supported himself by working full time while still attending high school, according to Biglow's post to GoFundMe.

He underwent surgery earlier today, Nov. 10, and will not be able to go to work or school for an indefinite amount of time.
