RCMP investigating ‘suspicious’ fire that destroyed Kelowna home

A Kelowna house was engulfed in flames last night and the RCMP and fire department have deemed the incident to be suspicious.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call reporting a porch on fire in the 800 Block of Harvey Ave, according to a fire department news release.

When firefighters arrived the house's porch was already fully involved.

Residents were evacuating the house as the fire department arrived.

"The fire was quickly knocked down and an extensive overhaul was completed. Witness statements lead to this fire being suspicious in nature," according to the fire department.

The RCMP and fire department are investigating the incident.

There were three engines, one rescue vehicle, one command vehicle along with 16 personnel on scene last night, according to the fire department.
