Keep roads safe and clean: cover your landfill load

KELOWNA – The spring weather has inspired residents to get an early start on their spring cleaning.

Some residents have been dropping off recycling and waste at Glenmore Landfill, but neglecting to cover their load. This creates an environmental impact as waste can fall out and litter roadsides. It also poses a safety concern.

“Debris falling from an uncovered vehicle or trailer creates a safety hazard to vehicles driving behind, as well as pedestrians and cyclists who share the road,” said Ken Muller, Landfill Supervisor. “It’s important that residents remember to cover their loads regardless of how far they’re travelling. Bylaw enforcement staff will be out monitoring and handing out fines to those who neglect to cover their load.”

The fine for an uncovered or unsecured load is $100.

Residents planning to spruce up their yards can also purchase OgoGrow or GlenGrow compost at the landfill from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily.

The Glenmore Landfill is located at 1595 Glenmore Road North. The facility is open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
