A 39-year-old man was arrested last week after a botched robbery saw the suspect crash an ATV he'd just stolen.

The man broke into a business near 43 Avenue in Vernon in the early evening Nov. 12, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Nov. 16.

The man attempted to steal the ATV but crashed the all-terrain vehicle and injured himself.

A member of the public who witnessed the event called police and was able to physically control the suspect until officers arrived and arrested him.

Just prior to the attempted ATV theft the man had entered a business in the 2700 block of 43 Avenue and at roughly 7:15 p.m. threatened an employee that he had a weapon and demanded money.

He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and store merchandise, says the RCMP.

The 39-year-old has been charged with robbery, break and enter, assault and several other charges. He remains in custody.
