Recovery of stolen vehicles from Alberta lead Kelowna RCMP to thief

After the Kelowna RCMP recovered a vehicle and trailer stolen from Alberta, police were able to arrest a suspect upon investigation, and a subsequent search warrant led officers to another stolen vehicle.

The first vehicle recovered by Kelowna RCMP was a Chevrolet pickup truck that was reported stolen from a home in Millet, Alberta in October, according to an RCMP media release. Attached to the pickup was a flat-deck trailer had been reported stolen in August from a business in Wabamun, Alberta.

With help from the Police Dog Services, officers arrested the suspect in the 2600 block of Ethel Street on Nov. 9. Police allege the 48-year-old man from Kelowna was in possession of the truck and flat-deck trailer.

Officers executed a search warrant at was in the 800 block of Raymer Road, also in Kelowna, where a Ford F-150, that was reported stolen out of Vernon in June, was recovered.

“It is common practice for criminals to use stolen vehicles to commit offences and for these vehicles be moved from one province to another,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tammy Lobb said in the release. “This is an example of criminal activity having no boundaries.”

The suspect has been released custody and is due in court on Feb. 14. He is facing charges of driving while prohibited and numerous criminal charges, including possession of property obtained by crime.
