Vernon’s top cop busts suspected thief

Proving that she doesn't just have a desk job, Vernon's top cop arrested a suspect yesterday morning wanted in connection with a break and enter.

According to Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, police were called to a robbery taking place at a business in the 2800-block of 30 Street at roughly 6:30 a.m. yesterday, Nov. 16.

The business owner was watching the break-in via a security camera in the business and called police. The suspect fled the scene and police officers immediately patrolled the area in search of the suspect.

"A description of the suspect was distributed to the responding and all on duty officers," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release. "At approximately 7:20 a.m., Supt. Baher, Officer in Charge of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, was conducting a patrol in the area of the break and enter when she spotted a man matching the description of the suspect.

"The suspect was arrested safely and without incident and the subsequent investigation has revealed additional evidence allegedly linking the man to the break and enter."

A 40-year-old Vernon man faces a number of potential charges and has been released from custody pending a future court date.
