New bridge in Penticton could boost business opportunities

PENTICTON – Ottawa is ready to hand over $500,000 for a third crossing over the Okanagan River, to be built by the Penticton Indian Band.

It's hoped the Satik Crossing will open up further business opportunities, more jobs and the potential for revenue. It will provide access from Highway 97 to Channel Lands, the location of the First Nation's 250,000 square feet of retail space, 270,000 square feet of business/light industrial commercial park and a 150 room hotel.

The Satik Crossing bridge will also connect Highway 97 with Green Avenue providing access to the Penticton Regional Airport. 

The $500,000 supports the bridge's engineering and design and comes through the Community Economic Opportunity Program which directs project-based support to First Nations and Inuit communities with the greatest opportunities for public services in economic development.
