Actor Ryan Reynolds wins Governor General’s award

A beloved Canadian actor and Vancouver native has won a prestigious Governor General's award.

Ryan Reynolds was announced as the winner of the 2021 National Arts Centre award, part of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards, last night, Nov. 26.

The arts awards are Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts.

"Each year, Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards are presented for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in the five categories of theatre, dance, classical music, popular music, and film and broadcasting.

"These awards recognize artists who have made an indelible contribution to Canada and the world’s cultural life. Recipients of these awards are nominated by the general public," according to the Governor General's website.

"I'm not crying. It's just maple syrup," Reynolds wrote on Twitter, while reacting to a video presented by singer Steven Page.
