Osoyoos woman struck by chunk of concrete while asleep with children in living room

A mom from Osoyoos has no idea why somebody decided to throw a chunk of concrete through her window in the middle of the night, but now she's left to pick up the pieces.

It was around 1:30 a.m., Nov. 30, when a football-sized piece of concrete smashed into Erin Lemiski’s living room and hit her. She said it caused two big cuts on her leg which required eight bandages, and left “glass everywhere.”

Earlier in the night Lemiski and her two children, ages 9 and 11, fell asleep in the room while watching a movie together. She remembers the broken glass woke her from a deep sleep and then she began to scream. Her children are “pretty shaken up.”

Whoever was responsible for throwing the concrete was not seen or heard by the family. The piece of concrete looked like it came off of an eroding sidewalk, she said.

The RCMP attended Lemiski’s home but were unable to locate any suspects, she said, adding that officers combed the area. The police helped clean up the broken glass.

Her boyfriend and boss also went over during the early hours of the morning to help cover the window.

Despite the sudden and unexpected scare, Lemiski said she didn’t feel unsafe while she waited for help to arrive. 

“It was definitely scary but it was such a weird one-time thing,” she said. 

Lemiski has no idea why somebody would want to ruin her night like that.

“I work at a real estate office and I’m a single mom – I really don’t have a lot going on.”

Lemiski lives across the road from Osoyoos Elementary School and is hoping the security footage will be able to offer some clues.

Osoyoos RCMP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
