School placed on hold and secure as Kamloops RCMP respond to break-in

A break and enter this morning was foiled by a home security system in the Upper Sahali neighbourhood in Kamloops.

Officers were called to a home near Summit Elementary around 10:17 a.m. today, Dec. 8, after an unknown man triggered a security system inside the house, according to an RCMP news release.

The school was placed on hold and secure while police responded to the call.

“As police arrived, the suspect fled on foot from the residence, but was quickly captured with help from the Police Dog Service Unit,” Const. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, said in the release.

Although he left the Monarch Court home on foot, police discovered a stolen vehicle was left near the house and was associated with the suspect, police said.

“The suspect was arrested and brought back to cells, where he is being held for court," Evelyn said.
