Husband charged with manslaughter in connection to missing B.C. teacher
The husband of a missing B.C. teacher has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in relation to her disappearance.
Langley teacher Naomi Onotera was last seen on Aug. 28. She was reported missing by her husband.
The Langley RCMP conducted an extensive missing persons investigation, determining foul play was suspected, according to a press release from the B.C. RCMP.
On Sept, 13, police found evidence at Onotera’s residence. Several months later, investigators presented the results of their findings to the B.C. Prosecution Service, who approved of a manslaughter charge and indignity to human remains against 49-year-old Obnes Regis, Onotera's husband.
On Dec. 17, homicide investigators arrested Regis and he remains in custody. This matter is now before the courts.
“We understand the community has been anxious for answers and this has been a difficult time for Naomi’s friends, family and the community as whole,” said Sgt. David Lee of homicide investigations unit, in the press release. “We hope this arrest provides some answers and assuages some fears.”
