iN VIDEO: Drive-by of Christmas light displays in Penticton

The winter solstice may be the darkest time of year but the streets of Penticton are brighter than ever.

Like most communities in Canada, the public can always count on an artistic showcase of festively decorated home for the Christmas season in Penticton.

This interactive map makes it easy to find the city's most decorative homes, and some of our favourite displays are featured in the video below.

Although a video cannot fully capture the beauty and detail that goes into each display, not everybody is able to do the tour. Some people don't have private transportation while others don't enough free time to appreciate the local light shows. And non-residents of Penticton can't be blamed for not wanting to travel on the highway at night in the winter.

The idea for this compilation video came from a Penticton resident named Sheila, who didn’t want her full name used. She reached out to the public for videos in a Facebook post, and explained how she lives alone, has health issues and no small children to go with.

She suggested that videos of the displays would also be appreciated by seniors, hospital patients and lonely people.

So Merry Christmas to Sheila and everybody else who likes to admire all the pretty lights.
