Vernon RCMP investigating drive-by shooting

Vernon RCMP are investigating following a targeted drive-by shooting this past weekend.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, the shooting took place in the 3700 block of 24 Avenue in the early hours on Jan. 2.

Police say multiple shots were fired and a residence was struck numerous times.

"The responding officers located several bullet casings on the ground outside the residence," Vernon North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.

"Police did not locate anyone injured in the shooting and initial findings from the investigation suggest this incident was not random and was a targeted attack."

In October 2021, police closed part of 24 Avenue after a device was discovered that appeared to be a bomb in a property in 3700 block of 24 Avenue. The object was later found not to be an explosive.

In December 2021, police arrested 19 people following a raid where drugs, weapons and cash, were found in the 3000-block of 24 Avenue.

Police say the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit is dealing with the ongoing investigation and ask anyone who witnessed the event or any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the shooting, to contact Const. Klassen of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171.
