This small Interior community’s emergency department has temporarily closed

The community of Ashcroft is without its emergency department this weekend due to staffing challenges.

Yesterday, Jan. 7, Interior Health announced Ashcroft's emergency department at the Ashcroft Hospital and Community Health Care Centre will be closed due to staffing availability.

The emergency department is closed from Jan. 7 to 10 and will resume regular hours Jan. 14, according to a press release issued by Interior Health.

Normal emergency department hours in Ashcroft are Friday at 6 p.m. to Monday at 8 a.m.

Interior Health asks residents to call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency, and visit the emergency departments at Royal Inland Hospital at 311 Columbia Street in Kamloops or the Nicola Valley Hospital at 3451 Voght Street in Merritt.

Call HealthLink B.C. at 8-1-1, a 24-hour service, if you are unsure of your need to seek emergency care.
