Resident sustains minor injuries in West Kelowna house fire

West Kelowna Fire Rescue crews were busy this morning dousing a house fire that destroyed a garage.

The fire department initially responded at 11 a.m., Jan. 9, to reports of a vehicle fire with extensions to a structure in the 3400 block of Rosedale Place, said assistant fire chief Lionel Bateman, in a press release.

Arriving firefighters found a two-story home with a fire in the garage. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and confine it to the garage but the home sustained significant smoke damage.

There were two residents at home during the time of the fire, and one was treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

The fire is not suspicious, Bateman said.

West Kelowna Fire responded with 20 personal, four engines, two investigators and a command unit.
