Restricted, prohibited and illegally-modified guns seized by RCMP in Naramata

The Penticton RCMP have been investigating a known criminal who lives in Naramata since December, and earlier this week officers raided his place and confiscated some cash, a bunch of weapons and a little bit of drugs.

A 42-year-old man from Naramata was also arrested, according to an RCMP report. He is now facing numerous charges and is expected to appear in court in May.

Police say they began a proactive investigation into a known criminal from Naramata last month. On Jan. 18 they executed a search warrant at his residence on the 1100-block of McPhee Road. Officers were supported by several other units including the Emergency Response Team.

“Penticton RCMP is committed to watching the behaviour of known criminals in the South Okanagan and continually monitoring their behaviour and its impact to public safety,” Supt. Brian Hunter said in the release.

Seized from the property were several firearms that are restricted, prohibited or illegally modified. A taser, cash and drugs were also taken by police. The police report did not say what kind of drugs.

“These firearms and prohibited weapons posed a significant risk to the general population of not only the South Okanagan but to all British Columbians,” Hunter said.

“It is a relief to get them off the streets and negate their potential to inflict harm. More importantly, it was imperative to the RCMP to get them out of the hands of people who had no lawful excuse to possess them and were likely to use them to commit violent crimes.”
