Wanted man caught in West Kelowna nearly one month after his car was found in Vernon

The RCMP have arrested a West Kelowna man who was on the lam throughout January after committing a violent assault on New Years Eve.

Dayton Lloyd McAlpine was arrested on Fox Road in West Kelowna on Feb. 1, according to an RCMP press release.

He was apprehended without incident by West Kelowna RCMP officers from the Indigenous Policing Services and Community Safety Unit, who were assisted by members of the Westbank First Nation Law Enforcement.

McAlpine was wanted for an assault that occurred at 8 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2021. Police issued his mugshot as well as a description of him and his car on Jan. 5. Later that same day, officers with the Vernon RCMP found the 2009 white Ford Focus he was said to be driving after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle.

The 34-year-old has been remanded in custody and will appear in court later in February.

And this year was not the first time he has been on the run from police.
