Person dies after being hit by vehicle in West Kelowna
West Kelowna RCMP officers are investigating after a collision Friday night caused the death of a pedestrian.
A police officer was on patrol Feb. 5 just after 11 p.m. when they saw a collision involving a sedan and a pedestrian, according to the RCMP's press release. The incident occurred northbound along Highway 97 near Grizzly Road.
The officer and witnesses provided immediate medical attention and lifesaving measures to the person at the scene, who was transported to hospital by ambulance. The person was pronounced dead at the hospital.
"The driver of the sedan remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The roadway was temporarily closed while officers collected evidence and spoke with witnesses. Driving behaviour, impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision," said Const. Solana Paré, with the Kelowna RCMP, in the media release.
The B.C. Coroners Service is conducting their own, parallel investigation. Neither the RCMP nor the Coroners Service are releasing the person's identity or further information.
