Man pointing replica handgun arrested at Kelowna mall
Kelowna RCMP were called to Orchard Park Plaza yesterday where a man was reported to be pointing a handgun at people.
When officers arrived, they found a 57-year-old man carrying a replica handgun, according to an RCMP news release.
"With the level of detail found in today’s replica firearms, responding police officers cannot tell if they are fake or real,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Duggan said in the release.
The man was arrested, but later released with a date to appear in court. No criminal charges have been laid yet, but he may be facing weapons-related offences.
The investigation is ongoing, RCMP said.
“Because of the potential risks involved, you cannot show or use imitation guns in public places. Depending on the circumstances, you can be fined, arrested or charged and have your replica gun seized," Sgt. Duggan said.
