Another reason traffic cops set up traps along roadways

KELOWNA – With 50 violation tickets handed out for traffic violations last weekend, the Central Okanagan Traffic Services has a message for drivers.

Slow down and move over when emergency services are trying to do their job.

Central Okanagan and Kelowna Municipal Traffic Services set up an enforcement operation on Highway 97 near Old Vernon Road and caught people failing to slow down or move over for emergency or official vehicles roadside. The 50 violation tickets handed out carried a fine of $173 each, according to an RCMP media release.

“The overall goal isn't to write tickets,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Joe Duncan says in the release. “The whole idea is we want our officers, other emergency services personnel and our partners such as tow companies and city workers to be in a safer environment while doing their jobs."

  1. of course watchout for them…but I don’t need a piece of legislation to tell me to do so.

  2. Notice the fact that at the end of every month, [last week] cops go on a terror and terrorise members of the public under the guise of safety. how about instead of people having to slow down to 50 and move over, [most move over if there is room anyways] the cops be accountable for their actions like the rest of us…is there a law that protects a guy changing his tire on the side of the road? nooooo…that man is accountable for his actions, responsible for watching to make sure…any anyone that does accidently hit someone…is held responsible. these bureaucrats get paid to dream up legislation…its not like they can stop…over a billion “laws” on the books…many of them unconstitutional…but the onus to prove they are unconstitutional is put on the backs of the working stiff…the costs, the terror if being charged and going to court, gov has an army of lawyers against you…justice is sold like good beef…most can’t afford it…and unaccountable gov is destroying society.
