UPDATE: Highway 97 in Lake Country re-opens completely

LAKE COUNTRY – Traffic is flowing unimpeded on Highway 97 through Lake Country following the threat of a landslide on the new strech of roadway.

The RCMP closed the highway and the Pelmewash Parkway, the old section of Highway 97, around 1:30 p.m. Friday so the stability of the rock face could be assessed.

By 2 p.m., the Pelmewash Parkway was re-opened and about 45 minutes later traffic was flowing on the northbound lanes.

The instability is on a portion of the hillside blasted during construction of the four lane section of highway.
