Kelowna man charged with threatening local TV reporter

A Kelowna man, whose racist tirade against a security guard last summer went viral, has been charged with uttering threats against a Global Okanagan reporter.

Bruce Orydzuk was charged March 3 with one count of uttering threats to cause bodily harm to Global Okanagan reporter Darrian Matassa-Fung, according to court documents.

The incident allegedly occurred Aug. 26, 2021. Matassa-Fung declined to comment for this story.

Orydzuk was condemned internationally last summer when a video taken by iNFOnews showed him telling a Sikh security guard that he was “disgusting” and to go back to his country.

Kelowna RCMP said it would investigate the incident outside of a COVID-19 Kelowna vaccination clinic as a potential hate crime but no charges have been laid yet.

Orydzuk is scheduled to appear in Kelowna court on the uttering threats charge, April 14.

Kelowna RCMP did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
