Penticton Indian Band opens doors for new housing development
PENTICTON — The Penticton Indian Band is hosting an open house this week to showcase the current development and future plans for Skaha Hills.
There is one open house tonight for Band members beginning at 5 p.m., and another for the general public on Saturday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Skaha Hills development plan includes a Discovery Centre, vineyards, winery and bistro, and residential homes, all located on the South Okanagan Hillsides, overlooking Skaha Lake and Penticton. The goal is to have 600 new homes built in stages and an operating vineyard and winery by 2015.
The project is being built on PIB reservation land, and is part of Chief Jonathan Kruger’s economic development plan that he has been phasing out over the last five years.
The PIB Development Corporation has partnered with Greyback Developments to build on the 550-acre site. Homes will be up for sale starting this Saturday.
