Kamloops RCMP were called to Westsyde Road this afternoon where a body was found floating in the North Thompson River.

Police and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating and still trying to identify the person, according to an RCMP news release.

Police have not identified the person, but B.C. RCMP spokesperson Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said the gender can't be determined yet.

“At this point it is too early to determine the nature of the incident, or whether criminality is suspected in the person’s death," Shoihet said in the release.

Police were initially called to the 4300 block of Westsyde Road, near where the body was seen.

An officer with the RCMP dive team helped recover the body this afternoon, March 29.
