Going loonie on April Fool’s Day

KAMLOOPS – Sometimes people work a little too hard for a coffee's worth of change.

An April Fools' gag involving a quarter and a loonie glued to the sidewalk in front of a comic book store was a source of amusement for the store staff.

"You'd be surprised at how hard people are willing to work for a dollar," said the manger of High Octane Comics, Nick Klie.

"People come back with tools."

Although present for the joke, Klie says the store isn't behind it.

He said it was interesting to note how hard people try for the money, as if it was their dollar to begin with. He added that he's witnessed people whip out knives and other tools to try and break the money free. Klie said he's confident that by the end of the day, someone will have worked hard enough to pry the money from the walkway.

John Bairl, a passerby, noticed a woman try to pocket the money and fail to do so. "It's a good gag," he said, mentioning that April Fool's Day technically ends at noon.
