Kelowna firefighters douse suspicious semi trailer fire

Kelowna Fire Department extinguished a fire this morning that destroyed two semi-trailers in Rutland.

Fifteen firefighters, with three engines, a rescue unit and a command vehicle were en route to an industrial compound on the 700 block of McCurdy Road around 6:45 a.m. today, May 9, according to a Kelowna Fire Department news release.

Despite initial emergency calls that a building was on fire, firefighters discovered it was the two trailers, parked side by side, that were burning.

According to the news release, the fire was limited to the trailers, which sustained "significant damage," and police are investigating the suspicious blaze.
