VERNON – A Vernon man is facing charges of drug possession and resisting arrest after a chance encounter with an RCMP officer.

An officer was in the 4200 block of Alexis Park Drive back on March 4 on an unrelated call when he noticed a Honda Civic pull into the parking lot. He ran the license plate as it drove by and was found out the vehicle had been impounded in the past.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the officer stopped the man who got out of the car and asked to see his driver’s license. The man ran into a home and the officer followed, placed the suspect under arrest and hauled him back to the cop car.

The suspect was carrying 14 grams of heroin, 19 grams of crystal meth and six grams of morphine, according to Molendyk.

A 31-year-old Vernon man is scheduled to appear in court on May 29.
