Victim and suspect arrested at Kamloops restaurant after RCMP called to possible stabbing

A large police presence on the North Shore in Kamloops last night was sparked by a report of a possible stabbing.

Kamloops RCMP officers were called to the 600-block of Fortune Drive around 8 p.m. yesterday, May 26, according to an RCMP media release.

The initial call was about a man inside the restaurant who was threatening a person with weapons. On the way there, police were told a person had possibly been stabbed and that bear spray had been deployed.

“Inside, police quickly located a man identified as the suspect, who was still in possession of a weapon,” Kamloops RCMP interim media relations Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “The presence of a weapon increased the risk to the public and to the officers responding, and the man was quickly taken into custody to prevent escalation.”

Police determined no one had been stabbed and no bear spray had been deployed.

A woman and another man were arrested in relation to the incident, RCMP said.

The accused received a court date and conditions while the male victim, who was wanted, was held on a warrant, and the woman was released without process.
