Pellet plant project land approved

TOLKO PROMISES UPWARDS OF 45 JOBS

VERNON – Construction of a pellet plant in Lavington has moved a step closer to reality.

Tolko Industries and Pinnacle Renewable Energy have received approval from the Agricultural Land Commission for use of agricultural land for non-farm use.

According to a media release from the company, the proposed $39-million pellet plant would be built right next door to the Lavington mill and would create over 45 jobs.

“There is still a lot of work to be done before we construction can begin,” Tolko’s Ken Thorlakson said. “But we have certainly cleared a big hurdle today.”

Coldstream district council whole-heartedly endorses the proposal and sent the Agricultural Land Commission a letter indicating such late last year.

The project still needs final zoning and environmental approval.
