Tweed weed seized at Kelowna airport

KELOWNA – A shipment of marijuana “material” headed to one of the big, new commercial weed growers licensed under the federal government’s new Marihuana Medical Access Regulations was seized at the Kelowna International Airport last week.

It didn’t help that Tweed Marijuana Inc. tipped the cops off to shipment.

According to a media release, the company was just trying to be transparent.

“The RCMP was informed in contemplation of shipping the material and was invited to examine the material,” a statement from the company said.

That’s when the police grabbed shipment of weed. The RCMP are going to hang on to it while the details are confirmed.

“We felt everything was done absolutely correctly,” Tweed chairman Bruce Linton told the National Post. “When you call police to say, ‘Come look at this,’ you believe you have everything in order.”

He said the shipment had the appropriate Health Canada authorization.

The company claims no one has been paid for the “material” and no one will be paid until the shipment arrives and is properly processed at the facility in Smith Falls, Ont.

Tweed has been gathering marijuana seeds and plants from growers licensed under the new MMA regulations. The company is trying to acquire different strains of medical pot so they can offer their customers a wide variety.

You could legally ship the seeds and plants until the end of March. It looks like Tweed may have missed that deadline by a few days.
