Man arrested for powering licensed grow-op with stolen electricity
CHERRYVILLE – Police found something wasn’t quite right at a licensed medical marijuana grow-op in Cherryville.
RCMP say officers were already aware of the legal, 1,200 plant operation in the North Fork Road area, but had suspicions the operator was stealing electricity.
Police executed a search warrant at the property March 17 and arrested one individual. The man was transported to police cells and faces a theft charge, according to a media release.
“All the plants and grow operation equipment in the home and outbuildings were seized by police. This is another example of medical marijuana licenses being abused by criminal elements,” Cpl. Henry Proce says in the release.

It would be nice if somebody pointed out how few and far between these instances are instead of saying “another example of abuse” like it happens more often than not.

This guy should be charged for stealing electricity, but why could the police seize his legal plants? If he had been stealing electricity to run a bakery, would they confiscate his bread and oven?
