Riders: Get ready for a new bike race

OKANAGAN – There is a new bike race coming to the Okanagan that offers riders a challenging and scenic course through the Okanagan Valley.

Following the Kettle Valley Railway Trail, the Kettle Mettle dirt road fond ride will start in Penticton, at one of Lake Okanagan, and end on the other side in Kelowna. Riders can celebrate their accomplishments at the wine festival being hosted after the ride.

The 105 kilometre ride is over relatively smooth terrain, but endurance rides like this one are gaining a lot of attention and growth, owner of Cyclepath in Kelowna, Gary Norkum, said.

He said races have been languishing, and “just starting dying” a few years ago. However, people really enjoy the point-to-point, long distance rides, he said.

People interested in participating in the ride on October 4, 2014 can register online.
