B.C. looking for daycares to join $10 a day childcare plan

The B.C. government is taking applications from child care providers as it expands the $10 a day childcare program.

The Ministry of Child Care says it wants to expand the program from the current more than 6,500 spaces to 12,500 by the end of 2022.

The program saves a family an estimated $800 a month by bringing the cost of daycare from an average of $1,000 a month to $200.

While all types of child care providers are being asked to apply, the priority will be given to large non-profit, publicly delivered daycares and Indigenous-led providers in communities that aren’t in the program yet, according to a ministry media released issued today, June 20.

The province has joined forces with the federal government to fund the program.

Applications from providers that offer child care for families with children five years of age and younger are being accepted for the next month until Aug. 18.
