Woman’s estate includes $900,000 donation

A gift of $900,000 in support of cardiac care was a pleasant surprise for the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.

Edith Graham who died April 28 at age 96, included the gift in her will, but notice of the endowment wasn't received from the estate lawyer until today. Having many family members with cardiac problems led Graham to support cardiac care at the hospital.

"The Kelowna General Hospital Foundation is honoured to receive this very generous bequest," said Gift Planning Officer Diane Paterson. "We are working with Edith's family to ensure her gift is recognized in a manner she so richly deserves."

Edith worked as a teacher, receiving her training in Moose Jaw, Sask, but moved to B.C. in 1945 where she earned a master's degree in education at UBC. Most of her teaching career was spent at Richmond Senior Secondary school. She retired after 45 years of instruction, in 1981.

Edith lived at Wedgewood Retirement home after moving to Kelowna in 1986.

The KGH Foundation is an independent, volunteer-driven charitable organization committed to enhancing the delivery of health care to the patients of KGH and its associated facilities.
