Canadian flag won’t fly at Kelowna City Hall for Canada Day

The City of Kelowna will not be flying a Canadian flag this weekend due to an issue with the flag pole at city hall.

"Due to an unfortunate break in the mechanism that raises and lowers flags at city hall, the Canadian flag will not be on display this weekend," said communications manager Tom Wilson, in a press release.

"The specialized service to repair the flag pole’s hoisting mechanism is provided by a Vancouver company that was unable to get to the repair in time for Canada Day."

The repairs are expected to happen next week, Wilson said.

Canada Day celebrations will be ongoing throughout the day in the city's downtown.

Fireworks are set to take place across Okanagan Lake starting at 10 p.m., July 1, and can be viewed from Waterfront Park.
