Video shows Sicamous man up close and personal with an avalanche
VERNON – If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be swept up in an avalanche, a Sicamous man is sharing his terrifying experience after catching it on camera.
Curtis Johnson was sledding in the Blue Lake area near Sicamous with a camera strapped to his head when an avalanche came rushing down the mountain. The following video shows how the avalanche carried him off and buried him in the snow. There's nothing but white until gloves and shovels break through the snow as his friends rushed to dig him out.
Watch closely around the one minute, five second mark and you’ll see the wave of snow start to crash into Johnson and his sled.
