Kamloops mother of three injured in motorcycle crash

The sister of a Kamloops woman, who will be unable to work after a motorcycle crash last month, is reaching out to the community for support.

Melissa Toews, from Vancouver, said her sister Michelle was driving along Paul Lake Road, June 22, when gravel under her tires caused her to skid off the road into a ditch.

She broke her hip, a rib and suffered a bad concussion and spent a week at Royal Inland Hospital, Toews said. Her sister is currently in a wheelchair dealing with post-concussion syndrome and won’t be able to work for the next 12 weeks at her job as a medical lab assistant at the hospital.

“The daily cost of daycare and rent, and the daily cost of life is going to stack up really quickly,” Toews said.

As a single mother of three young children, Toews wanted to help her sister in any way she could.

“I’m trying to mobilize some help for her… not only financially but in other ways, so we’re super grateful,” she said.

Since its creation, the online fundraiser has raised more than $2,000 out of its $10,000 goal.
