Police investigating assault, robbery in downtown Kamloops

A 29-year-old Kamloops man is facing multiple charges after a robbery and assault in a downtown intersection this past weekend.

RCMP received multiple calls about an armed man attacking another man at approximately 10:25 a.m. of July 3, in the intersection of 4 Avenue and Victoria Street in downtown Kamloops, according to a media release.

Police say the suspect allegedly robbed the victim and took off on foot. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Police located the suspect on a pedestrian bridge and arrested him,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said.

“Thanks to the assistance of a civilian, who helped direct police to the suspect’s location, and the quick response of the frontline officers, the suspect was safely taken into custody without incident.”

Andrew Jules Spencer Gizuk, 29, of Kamloops is facing five charges including robbery, assault with a weapon, threatening to use a weapon, possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes and fail to comply with a probation order.

He remains in custody awaiting a court appearance tomorrow, July 7.
