RCMP will keep the Tweed weed

KELOWNA – Tweed Marijuana is distancing itself from two marijuana shipments seized by the RCMP at the Kelowna International Airport.

The company says in a news release they will not be proceeding with the planned transfer of marijuana plants from licensed growers.

From day one Tweed chairman Bruce Linton has said they have done everything in accordance with the Marihuana Medical Access Regulations (MMAR).

The RCMP don’t agree.

The police say the marijuana seized at the airport didn’t match what was authorized to be transferred and it contravened the regulations.

In a statement, Staff Sgt. Duncan Pound says, “the RCMP understands the parameters companies licensed by Health Canada need to follow to produce and ship marijuana for medical purposes under the MMAR.”

The plants were being shipped through the Kelowna Airport illegally so they were seized, according to Pound. No word if any charges will be laid.

Tweed was acquiring the plants from licensed growers in an effort to improve the quality and variety of the medical marijuana it will offer clients.

The company claims no one has been paid for the “material” and no one will be paid.
