CP investigating 18-car derailment in Kamloops

CP Rail is investigating what caused 18 loaded grain cars to derail in Kamloops Wednesday afternoon.

The cars left the main track between Mission Flats Road and the Thompson River around 3 p.m., July 13.

A witness heard a loud crashing noise and dust scattered into the air after the cars tipped and smashed together.

The federal Transportation Safety Board says it is following up with CP Rail and gathering information, according to spokesperson Alexandre Fournier.

There were no injuries and the cars weren't carrying dangerous goods. No pollution was reported, according to Fournier.

Traffic was briefly close off on Mission Flats Road as crews responded to the area, but vehicles were allowed to pass through again by around 4 p.m.
