Wildfire near Kamloops picks up due to temperatures, wind

A wildfire that has been burning 15 kilometres northwest of Kamloops has picked up activity due to winds and high temperatures this afternoon.

The B.C. Wildfire Service reported it has been responding to the Watching Creek wildfire since July 29 but evacuated ground crews from the area this afternoon due to increased fire behaviour.

"Aerial resources will continue to evaluate possible response tactics, and ongoing response will be dependent on responder safety," the service reported on Twitter.

Smoke from the fire can be seen from Kamloops.

The fire was caused by lightning and was mapped at 3.7 ha, Aug. 1.
