Suspect in Batchelor Heights shooting case still awaiting bail hearing

KAMLOOPS – The man accused of shooting a Kamloops Mountie has yet to have his bail plan heard by Kamloops Provincial Court after it was adjourned for the seventh time today, April 2.

Kenneth Michael Knutson, 36, is charged with attempted murder in the commission of a criminal organization, aggravated assault of a peace officer, possession of a firearm while prohibited and discharging a firearm with intent to wound, maim, disfigure or endanger life. Charges were laid after a Dec. 3 shooting put one RCMP corporal in hospital and led to a manhunt through the Batchelor Heights neighbourhood.

Knutson retained Victoria-based lawyer Jordan Watt in January.

Cpl. Jean-Rene Michaud was transferred to a Vancouver hospital for his injuries shortly before Christmas but has since returned to Kamloops. Spokespeople at the Kamloops RCMP detachment said Michaud was recovering, but out of respect for his privacy will no longer provide public updates.

Knutson is expected to return to court April 16.
