Kids suspected of lighting abandoned couch of fire

WEST KELOWNA – Firefighters followed the smoke to find a smoldering, abandoned couch on Westside Road just off Highway 97 Sunday afternoon.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue captain Nathan Pike says they got a call about black smoke near the Westpoint Mobile Home Park around 12 p.m.

A resident at the mobile home park had spotted some kids lighting grass on fire at the side of the road and had seen them leave on BMX bikes.

It turns out the kids may have torched a couch in the culvert that runs under Westside Road.

The firefighters extinguished the fire and the RCMP were called to investigate the possible arson.
