B.C. Wildfire Service responding to new fire near Ashcroft

A smaller, highly visible wildfire has sparked to the southwest of Ashcroft this afternoon.

The new fire is located to the south of the first Minaberriet Creek wildfire, which was discovered July 31. The larger fire is considered to be under control while the smaller one was discovered today, said B.C. Wildfire Service information officer Nicole Bonnett.

The smaller fire is roughly 800 south of the larger fire and seven ha in size.

Two helicopters, firefighters and an air tanker was on site earlier today, she said.
