Hit and run leaves Vernon man with serious injuries

Vernon RCMP are asking for witnesses to come forward after a pedestrian was left with serious injuries following a hit and run last week.

The incident took place just before 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, not far from the Happy Days Convenience Store in the 3700 block of 25 Avenue.

Police say the victim, a 47-year-old Vernon man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Video footage obtained by police shows the 47-year-old crossing 25 Avenue and being struck by a small, dark-coloured, passenger vehicle which then drives away.

Police have not managed to locate the vehicle.

RCMP said 25 Avenue was closed for a period of time as it conducted its investigation into the hit and run.

Anyone with any information or who witnessed the collision is urged to call the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 and quote file number 2022-13794.
