Don’t invite the bears back

With the early spring temperatures, bears have begun foraging again and have been spotted in some West Kelowna neighbourhoods, attracted to garbage containers.

Residents of West Kelowna are reminded to put their garbage bins out on the morning of collection only and to keep garbage securely stored at all other times.

In an effort to get the message across, the District has begun placing temporary signage in neighbourhoods with bear problems. The signage indicates that bears have been into residential garbage in the area.

If you see a bear foraging in residential garbage or are concerned that garbage is being put out inappropriately, please contact the Bylaw Enforcement Office at 778-797-8810.
