Two women arrested after fleeing armed robbery on bicycles

Two women who fled on bicycles following an armed robbery at a Kamloops fast-food restaurant have been arrested.

Kamloops RCMP say one of the women entered the fast-food restaurant just after 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16 and produced a weapon and a note before stealing an undisclosed amount of cash and an employee’s cell phone.

The other woman was waiting outside and the pair fled on mountain bikes, Kamloops RCMP said in a media release.

Police say the cell phone was retrieved by a member of the public/

"Thanks to the assistance of a witness who saw the women fleeing and captured them on video, police were able to locate and arrest one of the suspects shortly after," Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said. "Images of the second woman were distributed to officers, who later recognized and arrested her while responding to another call for service."

Kamloops RCMP said both women were later released and have an upcoming court date.

Anyone with information about the robbery, or who witnessed the incident or captured it on video is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-28731.
