A Sunday evening car crash believed to have involved alcohol and speeding has left a 33-year-old man dead. His injuries were severe when police and emergency medical services discovered him laying on the side of Old Kamloops Rd around 7:30 p.m March 3.
RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk said the man hit a support pole with his Ford Ranger and was thrown from the vehicle onto the ground. At the scene, tire marks can be seen in the ditch of the southbound lane several meters before the origin of the support pole. Molendyk said the man was northbound when he struck the pole. A rubber vehicle mat and cans of Old Milwaukee beer litter the scene.
"There isn't much left of the truck," Molendyk said.
The man was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital by ambulance, and succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The incident is under investigation by the RCMP's traffic reconstructionist and the Coroner to determine the cause of the accident.
"Early indications are that speed and alcohol are likely contributing factors in this accident," Molendyk said.
The deceased's name is being withheld until the family has been notified. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.
